6 - WHO MADE YOU NOT A JERK?

It's strange, the things this place does to us. It seems like it gets us into this mindset where we're all perpetually waiting for the other shoe to drop. This has been a good week. So naturally, now everyone's pensive or philosophical or suspicious, because we're all expecting the world to just twist around and cosmically balance out by doing something terrible to us all.

And why shouldn't we expect that? I suppose the only reason most of us are here in the first place is because Karma eventually caught up with us, one way or another.

Still, [He gives a happy little sigh, and there might just be a slight clinking of glasses in the background.] It's been a good week. And if we're all expecting it to end at any minute, then all the more reason to enjoy this while it lasts.

In the spirit of which, I don't suppose anyone would be interested in joining me for a glass of wine on the deck? I'm finding myself in the mood for fresh air, good company, and a bottle of Merlot.

I've been resting, mostly, but I suppose there can be some enjoyment in repose. I will admit I was a mite over-zealous with my freedoms during the flood, most of which I do not fully recall.

Sadly I cannot metabolize alcohol at all. I'm good for good and fairly non-judgmental conversation regardless of anyone else's state of inebriation, however.

He spotted Dracula stepping out onto the deck a little way off, and lifted one hand to wave the man over. It didn't seem strange to him to be this comfortable reaching out to a complete stranger. Not at the time at least.]

I did that as well. I was trying to protect everyone from my temper, but what a ridiculous thing--the more one isolates oneself the harder it becomes to suffer foolishness. One's temper shortens.

I have been aboard a few weeks. I only recently came back to myself--I came aboard in a black, black mood. But that is done now!

Not exactly typical inmate behavior, I fear. I've been here a few months now, and people tend to be more inclined to starting arguments first and considering the faults of their own tempers later.

My Bride begged me to be merciful and follow the rules. The only way to do it was to seclude myself. It is probably good that I did, because I was overreacting to everything.

But yes, I have noticed. I only hope no one is stupid enough to turn their ire on me.
